Lunch

We finally made it to the lunch stop after 3 hours and 30 kilometres.
It was called Pizzeria Picco. Great atmosphere and fantastic food.

Pizzas

I had the Specialized on the left and John had the Surly. The Specialized had Hobbs pepperoni, house made sauage, tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil. The Surly was Hog Island clams, tomato sauce, garlic, soppressa, peccorino, parsley and Calabrian chilli.
I loved them both, the clams on the Surly were slightly sweet which offset the heat of the chilli very nicely. The Specialized was just a really great pepperoni pizza.
It was interesting that some of the pizzas were named after bicycle firms, Trek, Cannondale and Specialized.

Mmmm

Bellini.

Dessert 1

I had the soft serve with roasted strawberries and blueberries, and
hot fudge. John had the caramel and sea salt, they were both great but
the caramel had the edge with the whole salty / sweet thing.

Dessert 2

We were given a sample of the soft serve with olive oil and sea salt.
It was amazingly good.

Sausilito

This is the bank of fog covering the bridge and most of San Francisco.
It curved around Angel Island and I couldn't spot the end if it.

Golden Gate 2

That bridge had disappeared by the time we came back over it.

Golden Gate

And in other news, the Golden Gate is now a cantilever design rather
than a suspension bridge. ;)

Looking out the window

This guy has been looking out the front window of the train, watching
where we're going, since we left the station. Reliving childhood
memories perhaps ?!? Making sure we're going the right way ?!? Who
knows.

Excitement at the local Holiday Inn

Which turned out to be a whole lot less exciting and slightly more terrifying.

(see the white shape on the road in the middle ? That's the body. I think they tried to rob the 99 cent shop to the right.)

Update: It was a hit and run suicide. Poor guy.

New York - Day Three, the next bit.

After lunch and seeing the macaroons, we wandered the streets just looking and exploring. It was very hot and we found lots of seats in the shade to sit and have a rest and contemplate.

We spotted this gentleman washing his windows from his fire escape.

A couple of ladies having a chat outside a fashion house.

We wandered into a church for a look.

Louise spotted this restaurant that seemed to be full of glass.

We found the entrance and peered in, and they had some wonderful pieces of crystal on the tables and along the bar.

There was an antiques store just down the road.

We wandered around and found ourselves outside one of the places that we wanted to visit called Ceci Cela. It's a cake shop if you can't tell.

We then wandered back to Washington Square park and found a cheeky squirrel who was just hanging around trying to cool off.

And an exhausted shopper lying on the grass.

There were a lot of people in the park

And a band playing some cool jazz.

And this guy busking, obviously playing this ladies favourite song.

He was set up, right in the middle of the arch.

A couple of ballet girls checking their photo of the busker.

Napolean was on the column.

We walked up Fifth ave to another place on our map called Eataly. Someone got a little excited about the place.

And took lots and lots of photos of the fruit and vegetables.

And mushrooms.

And baby purple artichokes.

And of course the meats and cheeses section.

Which was fairly expensive.

And more meat.

They were making mozzarella.

Lots of people enjoying the food.

And there were rows and rows of yummy cakes.

I finally managed to drag leave Eataly and we wandered north and found this cute little hotel down a side street.

New York - Day Three, still going ...

We saw the symbol again, still have now idea what it means.

There was an awesome hat machine in a shop window near the seat.

There was a very interesting building around the corner, it was covered with steel mesh and looked like Lego blocks built on top of each other.

And did you notice the rose ? Very strange.

They were lots of great buildings around.

And we saw these artists painting an ad directly onto the wall

We finally made it to our lunch spot at Katz's Deli, the one When Harry Met Sally.

The walls inside were plastered with hundreds of signed photos from all the celebs and sports people who have visited over the years.

The place was crowded and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

The sandwiches were huge and really, really good. This is the Rueben with corned beef, Swiss cheese and Russian sauerkraut

After lunch we wandered back around to Biscous Ciao, which made macarons.

Lots of different macarons

A closer look at the different flavours.
