Cooking with Engineers
The airflow being pulled up the front of the oven by the heat of the gas burner, moved the hotspot backwards and the pot couldn't be centered in the supporting frame. This presented a safety issue as the pot was unbalanced and near to its tipping point. The foil in the front deflects the airflow and moves the hotspot back to the central position. It is left as an exercise for the reader to calculate the latent heat of combustion needed to correctly cook beef mince.
