NYC Day 1

We arrived at JFK airport about 9 am and caught a taxi to our hotel. They had our room ready ahead of time and we signed in and went up. After we freshened up and changed, we went exploring. Here's a map.

Our hotel was just south of the Twin towers site and we could see the new building from outside the front of our hotel.

There were some lovely old buildings nearby.

We walked south and saw the Statue of Liberty in the distance.

We walked up the western side of the island and through a section that was reclaimed with the spoil from the World Trade centre. It's a planned community called Battery Park City.

There were also skyscapers on the opposite side of the river.

We wandered east at the end of Park City and ended up at Balthazar for brunch, at which point my camera was stolen from me and used to take all these arty photos .... ;)

The waiters were tasting some wine, which attracted some attention.

After a very good brunch, we found ourselves outside Dean & Deluca's, which is our type of supermarket. Full of cheese and other horrible things. ;)

More tomorrow.
