Carmel-by-the-sea

John very kindly picked me up and we wandered down to Carmel-by-the-sea. Map.

We parked in amongst the cute houses and wandered down to the beach.

The beach was very nice, if a bit messy with seaweed from a recent storm.

Lots of large chunks of kelp had been torn from the seafloor.

There were several surfers braving the cold.

We walked up the beach towards the Pebble Beach golf course.

We climbed the dune after our feet got wet in a hidden pool of water. This is looking south towards Point Lobos.

Seafront properties.

Looking north towards the other point. Pebble Beach is to the right.

We walked south along the top of the cliff, looking at the houses.

We bought some sandwiches for lunch and stopped at
Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo.

There was a wedding on and we couldn't go inside, but the outside was impressive enough.

These two were on the road out the front of the Mission. The sign on the back of the first bike says "Canada to Mexico".

We parked outside the Natural reserve and walked in to find a spot for lunch.

We found a horrible spot for lunch.

Here's the view from the other side of the bay. The bench we sat on is on the point slightly right of centre and the promontory in the previous photo is on the left.

More tomorrow. ;)
